Senja – Cycling roundtrip

From the lively city of Tromsø, surrounded by mountains, fjords and islands, the cycling trip goes south through beautiful and varied sceneries. You meet the ocean at the the island Sommarøy. The trip continues by ferry to Senja, Norway’s second largest island. The road along the west coast of Senja to Gryllefjord, winds through a magnificent and rough landscape, uphill and downhill – in and out of fjords.

A bike ride along the Helgeland coast, in Northern Norway, offers spectacular scenery, with towering peaks, stunning ocean vistas and sheltered bays.

There are thousands of islands in all kinds of sizes and shapes. You cycle along fjords, over bridges, and at the foot of majestic mountains. Every day you’ll have the spectacular views of famous Norwegian landmarks: The Seven Sisters mountain range, The Mount Dønnamannen and Torghatten. You also get to visit the island of Vega, and the island of Lovund, which is known for its large colony of puffins.

Helgeland is a unique, open landscape of sea and land, which also reflects the way fishermen and farmers have lived during the past 1500 years, still maintained as a vibrant community.

Bike the Hardangerfjord route

The Hardanger-fjord route includes some of the finest sceneries Norway has to offer, with spectacular view of the fjords, mountains and glacier. When you bike, you get these great visual impressions in slow motion.

The tour starts with a train ride from Bergen to Voss. Hardanger is known for being Norway’s largest supplier of fruits and berries. You bike through areas with beautiful fruit farms. Early summer offers a great blooming season, and during late summer and fall the fruit can be bought at farm stands along the road. Help yourself and put money in a box.

The tour runs partially on less trafficated, picturesque roads, and partially on roads with more traffic. You go up- and down hills, and along fjords. Ferry crossings offers rests and time to enjoy the view from the fjord. You also get to bike the new spectacular Hardangerfjord Bridge. The biking tour ends in the small village – Rosendal, and we recommend a visit to the old Barony.

Sunnhordland the islands south of Bergen

Discover Bergen and the Fjords south of Bergen. The Hardangerfjord Express Boat takes you from Bergen to Rosendal through an adventurous nature of mountains and fjords.

From Rosendal you cycle in a varied and hilly landscape. You get to experience a little bit of Norway in miniature, with mountains, fjords, islands and lush hills. In the east, you can catch sight of the imposing glacier plateau, Folgefonna.

The trip starts and ends with accommodation in Bergen.

Bike across mountains and valleys in Valdres

Mjølkevegen fra Vinstra via Valdres til GolOne of Norway’s finest cycling routs crosses mountains and valleys in Valdres: “Mjølkevegen” (the old milk route) was voted the third nicest cycling route in Norway in 2009. The route runs through beautiful mountain landscapes. The entire route from Vinstra to Gol is at approx. 250 km.

Discover Norway has picked beautiful part of the route, running from Beitostølen to Fagernes. This is a five-day all-inclusive package tour. It’s a tough stretch, which crosses mountains and runs down valleys. Along the way you experience beautiful mountain areas and pass by one of Norway’s largest summer farm areas.

Valdres mountains – family trip

Valdres is one of the finest biking areas in Norway, and we want to share this hidden paradise with you.
This round trip is suitable for families with children from age 8, and other beginners.

You bike on a mountain plateau, 800 – 1000 meters above sea level. This area is also called The Forecourt of Jotunheimen National park. The area offers magnificent views towards mountain peaks towering more than 2 000 meters above sea level.

The mountain range between Valdres and Hallingdal features one of Norways largest, and most active mountain farm areas. You’ll probably meet sheeps, goats and cows along the way. You also get the opportunity to join activities like farm visits, horseback riding, canoe paddling, hiking and swimming.

Destinations

Børgefjell

Starting from Røyrvik in Nord-Trøndelag you can cycle Børgefjell National Park, with a border to Sweden. Røyrvik offers a variety of cycling routes which for the time being are largely back and forth, making them suitable for all: when you´ve had enough you just turn around and go back.

Geilo

Geilo er et sykkeleldorado for hele familien med et bredt tilbud innen terrengsykling, med både familiesykling, stisykling og ekstremsykling. Geilo er også et fint utgangspunkt for flere flotte sykkelruter som Rallarvegen og Hallingdalsruta (Oslo-Bergen), Numedalsruta og Mjølkevegen.

Golsfjellet

Midt mellom Valdres, Hemsedal og Hallingdal ligger Golsfjellet, i enden av Mjølkevegen og kort vei til endeløse herlige sykkelveier på fjellet. Et fantastisk område for barn på egen sykkel, med milevis med grusveier nesten uten biltrafikk og bratte stigninger. Stort aktivitetstilbud og kort vei til komfortable overnattingssteder.

Grimstad

Mellom holmer og skjær, på nederste delen av det langstrakte land, ligger den idylliske byen Grimstad, med hvite trehus og mange sommerturister.

Grimstad har vakre naturområder, museer og andre ting som er verd å se og som er lett tilgjengelig med sykkel. Lang eller kort tur, langs strendene eller i innlandet, du velger selv. Bruk en hel dag på en runde, eller ta deg en treningstur. Velg selv etter form, vær og føreforhold.

Helgelandskysten

På Helgelandskysten kan du sykle uanstrengt fra øy til øy. Stopp ofte, rast på hvite kalkstrender, fyll lungene med salt havlukt og nyt de vakre fjellene rundt deg. Snart innser du at sykkel må være den beste måten å ta seg rundt på Helgeland. Det er du selv som bestemmer farten, og hvor anstrengende det skal være.

Smøla
